NEIU Art Department has two clubs: ZIY Club and NEIU Artists & Designers Association.
(Zine It Yourself)
Acording to Milwaukee Zine Festival, "a zine is a self-published, non-commercial print-work that is typically produced in small, limited batches. Zines are created and bound in many DIY ways, but traditionally editions are easily reproduced - often by crafting an original “master flat,” and then photocopying, folding, and/or stapling the pages into simple pamphlets. Zines may also be sewn, taped, glued - or even exist in unbound and other non-folio formats" (https://www.binderymke.com/what-is-a-zine).
Art + Design Majors, How could you benefit from making Zines? Whether you are a painter, sculptor, ceramic artist, graphic designer or other, we are all eager to share our work while also making a statement. Zines are a great way to communicate in a simple but effective & creative way who we are as artists and what we stand for. In addition, Zines are a fantastic way to promote yourself (or work) and make new connections by trading Zines with other creators. As artists we can struggle to organize our thoughts and ideas. Making Zines is a great way to keep track of current or future projects. You may write, draw, print, make collages or even create a small portfolio to give to people when introducing your work to a new person!
NEIU Artists and Designers Association
The NADA Club provides the opportunity to develop your portfolio and expand your professional and creative experiences. Juried student shows, visiting artists and group critiques are a few events held for members at each monthly meeting. Share ideas and artistic projects for the benefit of the student community in general and build an atmosphere of collaboration among peers. Explore other clubs through the Office of Student Leadership and Development, which houses chartered clubs and organizations to meet the interests of students on campus. Joining a club is one of the many extracurricular things to do while at Northeastern.
Thursdays in FA 206
If you are a current student interested in the club please email us to find out more information :)
Creative Briefs is an activity that will take place on the club's Instagram.
You do not have to have an Instagram to participate.
How it works:
There will be a new theme every few weeks that you can submit work to feature on the club's Instagram.
Think of it like an Inktober but any medium you like!
Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Photography, Graphic Design, Etc. (However Instagram doesn't take gifs.)
The submissions can be quick sketches, doodles, or finished pieces.
Just make it relevant to the theme :)
You can email your work to the club at firstname.lastname@example.org
Optional: In the description of your work on Instagram you can be mentioned/tagged.
These will be posted as they come in.
You can submit more than once per theme.
Submit work for this theme no later then May 2nd at noon.
Next theme will be announced on Monday April 19th! :)
Creative Briefs will be back in the Fall semester.
Hope to see your work then :)
